I'm back! (?)

It's summer - which means a few things:
1 - I'm off for three months.  Gosh, I love this
2 - I have MUCH MORE energy that I have had and will have after September
3 - I will *attempt* to keep this updated

Lest we get our hopes up, know that this isn't my main blog, but just a place I will visit from time to time to talk hair and all that jazz.  But you can definitely feel my presence on my Pinterest page, which I update almost daily, and my youtube channel, where I will at least build oodles and oodles of playlists from my favorite videos on your favorite topics.

Be well, touch base, and enjoy!

and you are...

Hey Napptural,

I was born and bred here in Cleveland, Ohio.   After graduating third in my high school, I was able to attend a rigorous and highly academic university in St. Louis, MO where I lived for seven years before I came back home.

Now, what does this matter to you?  And why the bolded words?

I attended school in a district that was 99.9% Black, and gave me ample opportunity to study the styles and trends.  From quick weaves with clocks to boys with locs, I've seen and subsequently tried it all.  I got my hair "permed" (why did we call relaxers 'perms'?) faithfully every six to eight weeks until high school when I decided to go natural.

In high school, that was not a popular decision, but hey, a nerd like me (remember, third in my class) had never really been popular, so that wasn't a factor in my decision.

Said nerd then graduated and ran far away from home, continuing her love of reading, researching, and playing in her hair right into her college of choice.  Hair became my hustle  - class during the day, hair at night and on the weekends.  It was something I did well, something that reminded me of home, something that helped me cope on a campus where I and my kinky/coily curls were in the minority, and something that made $$$.  In my adventures off-campus I learned how natural-hair friendly Saint Louis was.  It was then that I cultivated my passion for natural hairstyles.

The coils, the kinks, the curls - OH MY!   I loved it all!  And I loved the love from the men who loved my hair, praising my beauty in a way that I hadn't experienced in Cleveland.

And that's how he got here. smile.

Fast Forward >>>

After taking a pause for the cause, I realized how much I missed hair.  Doing hair.  Researching and practicing new styles. Helping my sisters with their natural hair journey, a journey that I have done at least three times - including two big chops.

It took me a while, but I now know - I LOVE natural hair!

Do you?

I am a historian and teacher by trade, and a kitchen beautician by proxy.  I have years of experience with loving, moisturizing, and styling our curls, and I don't plan to stop anytime soon.  However, please understand that I will NOT do a style that I don't feel comfortable doing.  I love to educate my clients on their hair, and I realize the relationship begins when I welcome you into my home (or come to yours) to do you hair  - and an informed client is a happy client!

Explore the site, do some research on your own, and when you are ready for a style, drop me an email!
